We calculate gluon production in deep inelastic scattering of the curr
ent j = -1/4 F-mu nu(a) F-mu nu(a) off a large nucleus and in nucleon-
nucleus collisions. In a covariant gauge calculation the transverse mo
mentum spectrum of the gluon is determined by the final state interact
ions of the gluon with the nucleons in the nucleus. In a light-cone ga
uge calculation final state interactions are absent and these effects
come from the light-cone wavefunction of the nucleus. We work in an ap
proximation which neglects QCD evolution of gluons in the nucleon, tha
t is in a quasi-classical approximation. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevie
