F. Linnehan, EXAMINING SELECTIVE DETERMINANTS OF JOB-PERFORMANCE FOR ENTRY AND LOWER-LEVEL WORKERS IN MEXICO, Applied psychology, 47(4), 1998, pp. 547-557
Using data collected in a coupon-processing plant in Mexico, this stud
y examined the determinants of job performance for low- and entry-leve
l employees. Results from multivariate regression analyses indicate th
at whereas school grades have been shown to be positive predictors of
work performance in the US, they were negative predictors of performan
ce in Mexico. Self-confidence was significantly correlated with perfor
mance. The implication of these findings for owners of maquiladoras an
d the potential value of the findings to the employee selection proces
s is discussed, along with areas for future research.
