Bj. Liu et al., F-IMPLANTATION FOR ENHANCING SURFACE HYDROPHOBICITY OF MEDICAL POLYMETHYLMETHACRYLATE( ION), Chinese Physics Letters, 15(9), 1998, pp. 662-664
The surface of medical polymethylmethacrylate intraocular lens was tre
ated by F+ ion implantation at 80 keV with various doses. Hydrophobici
ty test showed that contact angle was increased from 68.5 degrees to 8
3.5 degrees with increasing dose. No appreciable changes in optical tr
ansparency and tensile strength were observed. X-ray photoelectron spe
ctroscopy and electron spin resonance analysis indicated that F+ ion i
mplantation broke some original O-containing groups to form some new C
-F bond and radicals on the surface.
