In 309 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy during long-term follow-up
(mean 9.4 years), independent predictors of death from congestive heart fa
ilure (n = 15) were smaller electrocardiographic SV1 + RV5 and smaller echo
cardiographic fractional shortening at the initial evaluation. Our data may
contribute to the construction of therapeutic strategies for the preventio
n of heart failure death in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
