Abstract
A number of alpha-cyano-beta-substituted ethyl propenoates were synthesised by condensation of appropriate aldehydes with ethyl cyanoacetate in basic medium. These compounds have been studied for their antileishmanial activit ies in vivo in hamsters. Two compounds exhibited 70-77 % activities both by intramuscular and oral routes.
