New ionization potentials are derived for many light ions (3 less than or e
qual to Z less than or equal to 50) by a systematic consideration of the di
fferences between calculated nb initio values of these potentials and the N
IST-evaluated database along the Li through Ar isoelectronic sequences. A r
elativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock approach has been used for calcul
ating the ab initio values of the ionization energies. Analytical expressio
ns are obtained for expressing the differences between the theoretical data
and the compiled results available along the different sequences, allowing
the assessment of previous results and also reliable predictions of new po
