F. Burel, TIME LAGS BETWEEN SPATIAL PATTERN CHANGES AND SPECIES DISTRIBUTION CHANGES IN DYNAMIC LANDSCAPES, Landscape and urban planning, 24(1-4), 1993, pp. 161-166
The assumption of equilibrium between the different parameters investi
gated during ecological surveys has always been widespread. It is also
common in landscape ecology to omit spatial patterns history when rel
ating species distribution to these patterns. This assumption can be m
isleading as several studies show that rates of many species react slo
wly at landscape changes. We propose that landscape history at several
spatial scales be taken into account in the sampling design.
