Abstract
Active metallic waveguides based on photonic bandgap structures are propose d. Their operation relies on the electromagnetic properties of mixed two- a nd three-dimensional photonic crystals. Tuning is induced by reflectivity m odulation of the waveguide walls by means of varactor diodes.
