T. Imaki et al., Amelioration of acromegaly after pituitary infarction due to gastrointestinal hemorrhage from gastric ulcer, ENDOCR J, 46(1), 1999, pp. 147-151
We report a rare case of acromegaly in which pituitary infarction possibly
developed in a GH-producing pituitary adenoma following gastrointestinal bl
eeding from peptic ulcer. In this case, pituitary infarction resulted in sp
ontaneous remission of acromegaly associated with diabetes mellitus. In add
ition, detailed histological investigation revealed that clinically silent
pituitary apoplexy was mainly an acute ischemic event which occurred recent
ly in a GH-producing adenoma. This event led to massive coagulation necrosi
s of the tumor and endocrinological improvement.
