Abstract
There is now ample evidence that ursodeoxycholic acid is the drug of choice for the treatment of cholestatic liver diseases. It is probable that ursod eoxycholic acid has to be administered for prolonged periods to see appreci able reversal in liver damage. Nevertheless, disabling symptoms like ruritu s are often brought under control and quality of Life improves. It is possi ble that a combination therapy with a strong antiinflammatory drug to halt immune destruction of liver cells will, be more beneficial than ursodeoxych olic acid alone.
