Abstract
A new model of ductile-brittle transition on decreasing temperature is sugg ested. It is based on the analysis of two variants of the development of de fects near an elastic stress concentrator. The conditions of the generation of dislocations or microcracks are investigated for the different temperat ures. The influence of surface energy density on the temperature of ductile -brittle transition is analyzed.
