We consider the characteristics of 'Information Age' organizations - organi
zations that are structured to operate effectively in dynamic, information-
rich environments. Using survey data collected from a large-scale world-wid
e sample of business units in the computer and electronics industry, we qua
ntify these characteristics and relate them to market success. We also show
that the relationship between 'Information Age' organizational characteris
tics and business performance is stronger in industry segments that are mor
e dynamic. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
