Abstract
A novel method of generating a rapidly renewable and reproducible polymer c oated electrode surface is proposed. This involves in situ electropolymeriz ation at a monomer modified carbon paste electrode. A carbon paste electrod e bulk modified with 2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline was used to demonstrate th is approach. The polymer modified carbon paste electrode obtained by electr opolymerization was found to be useful for trace determination of Cu(II), i nvolving preconcentration and anodic stripping procedures. It was also show n that the polymer coated electrode surface could be renewed quickly and re producibly after each determination. An optimized procedure was developed s ubsequently for the determination of Cu(IT) and this was employed for the d etermination of Cu(II) in a certified water quality control sample. Althoug h the proposed method was demonstrated for Cu(II) determination, in princip le, it can be more generally useful in applications involving polymer modif ied electrodes.
