Abstract
The interaction of a sodium atom with the silicon(111) surface is stud ied from the point of view of molecular orbital theory. The Si surface is modelled by finite clusters and the interaction of the alkali atom is investigated from different approach positions. Electron correlati on is incorporated by invoking the concepts of fourth-order many-body perturbation theory. The results are compared with available data in t he literature.
