Abstract
Double differential (n, xp), (n, xd) cross sections of carbon and aluminum
were measured for 65 and 75 MeV neutrons at angles between 12 degrees and 7
0 degrees using Delta E-E telescopes at a Li-7(p, n) neutron source facilit
y at TIARA. The data at 12 degrees were obtained by employing an annular ge
ometry. The telescopes consisting of SSD and NaI(Tl) scintillator, experime
ntal methods and the data reduction procedures are presented as well as the
results. The carbon data are compared favorably with existing experimental
data. The (n, xp) spectra of both carbon and aluminum agreed fairly well w
ith theoretical calculations based on the intra-nuclear cascade model and t
he multi-step Hauser-Feshbach model including preequilibrium effects, but t
he (n, xd) spectra differ significantly from those calculations.
