EMF studies of electrochemical cells Pb/PbCl2/(1-phi)AgCl-phiAl2O3/Ag
(0 less-than-or-equal-to phi less-than-or-equal-to 60 v/o) were carrie
d out. The formation free enthalpy of AgCl, DELTA(f)G(AgCl), of the co
mposites is shown to be practically the same as that for the pure salt
. Small changes may be attributed to interfacial effects and elastic s
trains. The conductivity values of the composite electrolyte systems s
tudied here in more detail, also in the low temperature regime, are in
complete agreement with the former analysis. Below room temperature,
series effects cannot be separated from the pure parallel effect any l
onger and give rise to a nominally steeper activation enthalpy in this
regime.
