Abstract
Background: The role of pulmonary micro circulatory dis orders in the patho genesis of sepsis-associated adult respiratory distress syndrom is unclear. Methods: The aim of this study is to establish a modell of direct visualisa tion of the pulmonary microcirculation of the rat by in vivo fluorescence v ideomicroscopy. Results: 24 hours after induction of a necrotizing pancreatitis we observe an increased number of sticking leucocytes and a decreased velocity of red blood cells in pulmonary capillaries, an increased permeability of the alve olo-capillary wall and an increased width of interalveolar septa. Conclusion: This method of pulmonary videomicroscopy allows a quantitative study of subpleural vascular and alveolar structures in vivo.
