Abstract
Thermomechanical processing (TMP) is associated with two major requirements : (1) the production of usable shapes through primary working (ingot breakd own) and secondary mill operations (hot rolling or forging); and (2) the op timization of mechanical properties through microstructure control during t he different stages of the thermomechanical process. This paper reviews the thermomechanical processing of alpha titanium alloys in general and high t emperature deformation mechanisms and microstructure control during TMP in particular.
