We discuss the decay of axion walls bounded by strings and present numerica
l simulations of the decay process. In these simulations, the decay happens
immediately, in a time scale of order the light travel time, and the avera
ge energy of the radiated axions is [omega(a)] similar or equal to 7m(a) fo
r v(a)/m(a) similar or equal to 500. [omega(a)] is found to increase approx
imately linearly with ln(v(a)/m(a)). Extrapolation of this behaviour yields
[omega(a)] similar or equal to 60m(a) in axion models of interest.
