We demonstrate that the transient photoconductivity, photoluminescence, and
excited-state absorption (PA) in single-crystal alpha-octithiophene (8T) a
re radically different from those in 8T-oriented polycrystalline film. Thes
e observations suggest that structural disorder in the 8T system introduces
sub-band-gap energy levels that reduce the photocurrent lifetime, facilita
te radiative transitions in the near-IR region, and enhance PA. [S0163-1829
