Vk. Grygor'Ev et al., Investigation of a resonance structure in the system of two K-S mesons in the mass region around 1775 MeV, PHYS ATOM N, 62(3), 1999, pp. 470-478
The system of two K-S mesons has been analyzed in the mass interval 1600-19
50 MeV. Relevant events from pi(-)p interactions at 40 GeV were recorded by
the 6-m MIS spectrometer developed at the Institute of Theoretical and Exp
erimental Physics (Moscow). The use of a neutral trigger in the experiment
being reported made it possible to suppress both charged particles and phot
ons. By using the constraint \t\ > 0.23 GeV2, a maximum of width about 30 M
eV was discovered near the KSKS invariant mass of 1775 MeV. An investigatio
n of this maximum revealed that it is likely to be explained by the existen
ce of two narrower states whose widths are commensurate with the spectromet
er mass resolution of about 5 MeV. Data on these states, whose masses have
been found to be 1768 and 1787 MeV, are compatible with the quantum-number
values of J(PC) = 2(++). The product of the cross section and the relevant
branching ratio has been estimated at about 1.5 and 2.5 for, respectively,
the first and the second state.
