Two new species of Hansenium, H. tropex and H. thomasi, are described from
Paddock Reef, Madang, Papua New Guinea. H. tropex is characterized by the p
ossession of a broad oar-shaped lobe of the carpus of pereopod 1 in the mal
e. H. thomasi is characterized by a narrow tapering mesially-directed lobe
of the carpus of pereopod 1 of the male. The genus is redefined, with its c
hief character being the presence of a large carpal lobe on the first male
pereopod. The eight stenetriid genera are compared on the basis of six char
acters.
