Buckminsterfullerene (C60) reacts with cyclopentadiene to produce the
Diels-Alder adduct C60C5H6 (1). To determine the thermal stability of
adduct 1, we have determined the rates of decomposition in the tempera
ture range 80-95-degrees-C. Fitting this data to the Arrhenius form of
the rate expression gives a pre-exponential factor of log A = 12.59 /- 0.4 and an activation energy of 26.7 +/- 2.2 kcal/mol.
