Swarming of termites at a specified plot (Zabul, Iran) measuring 1x1 acre w
as observed. A very interesting and a rare phenomenon was witnessed during
the swarming season of termites. On three occasions, March 24, 25 and 26, 1
991, at wee hours (5. 15 A.M.), padded nymphs of Postelectrotermes pasniens
is Akhtar, emerged from the soil and moved up to 10 feet and then again bur
ied themselves in the ground. A total of 2186 nymphs were collected from th
e morning columns. The sex ratio of males to females of padded nymphs of P.
pasniensis was 2:1, and was significantly (P<0.05) different from 50:50 (m
ale and females).
