Abstract
We performed arthrodesis of the ankle in eight patients by arthroscopi c joint excision and fixation with crossed tibiotalar compression scre ws. Two patients had rheumatoid arthritis and six had post-traumatic o steoarthritis. None had a serious deformity of the ankle. Clinical ank ylosis was achieved in all cases and there was radiological evidence o f bone fusion in four.
