Abstract
A screen capacity model can result by assuming that screen blinding limits volumetric capacity and that blinding occurs when a fiber floc becomes immo bilized in a screen slot. The essential analysis is a force balance on a si ngle floc in a slot with the forces arising from the flow through the slot, friction of the floc against the slot wall, and the rotor pulsations. The analysis gives an expression for capacity using hardware and pulp variables . Pilot plant trials with nine industrial screen plates determined constant s for the analysis and verified the form of the equation.
