Abstract
We report a two-step synthesis of polysubstituted fluorenones by condensati on of malononitrile with aromatic aldehydes and methylketones or with beta- aryl-alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, aldehydes or ketones. The y ields of the fluorenone systems depend on the nature of the substitution on the aromatic rings. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
