Reliable methods for biotechnological control of estrous and ovulation in pigs

Current knowledge of follicular growth. maturation and ovulation is summari sed. Reliable biotechnological methods for the control of oestrus and ovula tion in gifts and sows are described With good herd reproduction management , biologically active substances (Altrenogest, eCG, GnRH, LCG) provide a po werful means for reproduction control. Only biologically proven batches of eCG should be used for treatment because there is considerable variation in the bioactivity between batches. Both treatment protocols and the results of treatment are described.
