The Guse-Hanchen effect for the light reflected from the interface for
med by bigyrotropic and non-gyrotropic media is theoretically studied
for the cases of longitudinal and polar magnetooptical configurations.
The reflection matrices for normal electromagnetic waves are calculat
ed, and the matrices of phase shifts and longitudinal displacements as
functions of the tangential component of the reduced wave vector are
determined. Numerical estimates of the magnitude of the effect in the
near-IR region for the interface formed by a nonmagnetic gadolinium ga
llium garnet and a bigyrotropic magnetic yttrium iron garnet are made.
