Abstract
Research of bioindicators showing stress by the means of morphological alterations of vegetative and reproductive organs. In this research a morphological and biometriv study about Solidago gigantea Aiton samples has been carried out comparing populations living on heavy-metal toxic soil, represented by hydrocarbon sludges located in abusive accumulations of toxic and noxious materials in Pavia province (Lombardy), with populations from ruderal sites out of the burrow. The results have demonstrated that the sludges populations, although characterized by reductions in stature, don't show pathologic symptoms caused by the metal presence in the soil and are able to concentrate large quantities especially of Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn, in proprtion to their concentration in the soil. Therefore we have verified an intraspecific differntiation of metal-tolerante populations that are able to accumulate heavy metals and for this reason can be considered bioindicators of the substratum.
