Abstract
ScFexAl12-x compounds exist for 4 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 6. However, a single-phase alloy is only obtained for x = 4. The x = 7 sample contains considerable amounts of unidentified phases . The alloys with x greater than or equal to 5 are ferromagnetic, wher eas that with x = 4 is antiferromagnetic. Its magnetization versus fie ld curve at 4.2 K has, however, ferromagnetic character. The electrica l resistivity of the investigated materials shows metallic character w ith a rather low residual-resistivity ratio. The obtained results are discussed in relation to the UFexAl12-x system. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie nce B.V. All rights reserved.
