Jj. Seymour et Pc. Ferrera, COINCIDENT MENINGITIS AND INTRACEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE IN AN UNRESPONSIVEADULT, The American journal of emergency medicine, 16(6), 1998, pp. 576-578
Intracerebral hemorrhage is an unusual complication of central nervous
system infection. A 54-year-old man presented to our emergency depart
ment unresponsive following an acute intracerebral hemorrhage that lik
ely occurred as a complication of pneumococcal meningitis. Although th
e simultaneous presence of meningitis and intracerebral hemorrhage is
rare, prompt identification and treatment of each is essential to maxi
mize the outcome. The intracranial complications and various presentat
ions of bacterial meningitis in adults are reviewed. (Am J Emerg Med 1
