B. Chevallier et al., EVALUATION OF THE SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF A CORN STARCH-THICKENED MILKFORMULA IN INFANTS WITH SIMPLE REGURGITATION, Annales de pediatrie, 45(7), 1998, pp. 509-515
An open and prospective study was conducted in 95 infants, aged 2 week
s to 11 months, suffering from simple regurgitations, to assess the sa
fety and efficacy of a milk thickened with maize starch during one-mon
th-period. The results of the intention-to-treat analysis show a very
good safety according to the following evaluation criteria : adverse e
vents, frequency and consistance of stools, shouts and cries in postpr
andial period and unexplained night awakenings. The efficacy results s
how a significant decrease in regurgitations. These satisfying results
on the thickened milk tested can recommand its use in the dietary mea
sures on regurgitations to reduce digestive drugs.
