The vibronic spectra of jet-cooled 2,6-dimethylaniline, 2,6-dimethylan
iline-NHD, and 2,6-dimethylaniline-ND2 resulting from the S-1 <-- S-0
electronic transition have been simultaneously recorded using resonant
two-photon ionization mass spectrometry. The newly observed spectral
features show that the active vibronic transitions are related to the
aromatic ring vibrations, the NH, inversion, and the CH, rotational mo
tions. These spectroscopic data are found to be consistent with the st
ructural change upon electronic excitation, as predicted by ab initio
calculations.
