Aluminometaphosphate glass with Al2O3 concentration of 25 wt % and P2O
5 concentration of 75 wt % was produced and studied. Some physical and
chemical characteristics of the glass were studied, and the absorptio
n and luminescence spectra of Ti3+ ions in this glass at a temperature
of 77 K were measured. The experimental data gave evidence of a pertu
rbed octahedral coordination of the titanium ions. The bands observed
in the electronic absorption spectrum were attributed to the B-2(2) --
> B-2(1) and B-2(2) --> (2)A(1) transitions. The intense luminescence
of titanium in the wavelength range of 700-1000 nm was observed. The a
verage luminescence decay time was equal to 10 mu s.
