Mr. Jeffreys et I. Smodlaka, EXPLORING THE FACTORIAL COMPOSITION OF THE TRANSCULTURAL SELF-EFFICACY TOOL, International journal of nursing studies, 35(4), 1998, pp. 217-225
The factorial composition of the transcultural self-efficacy tool (TSE
T) was explored using data from 1,260 culturally diverse undergraduate
nursing students. The TSET was an 83-item questionnaire designed to m
easure and evaluate students' confidence for performing general transc
ultural nursing skills among diverse client populations. A principal c
omponent analysis, with the varimax rotation, yielded nine factors: re
cognition, kinship and social factors, professional nursing care, cult
ural background and identity, lifecycle transitional phenomena. awaren
ess of cultural gap, communication, self-awareness and appreciation. T
he results indicate that the TSET assesses the multidimensional nature
of transcultural self-efficacy and taps the three dimensions of learn
ing: cognitive, practical and affective. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd
