The influence of gyrotropy on the field dependences of modulation char
acteristics of cubic noncentosymmetric crystals under conditions of th
e longitudinal electrooptical effect is studied. Basic features of the
se characteristics are revealed which are associated with changes of p
olarity of an external electric field, optical bias, and wave front re
versal. It is shown that the influence of gyrotropy on the form of mod
ulation characteristics becomes weaker with increasing electric field
and, in the limit of strong fields, vanishes completely.
