M. Haas et Hg. Classen, MG AND CA LEVELS OF SHR-RATS KEPT ON A MG-SUFFICIENT DIET AND TREATEDWITH NITRITE DURING 12 MONTHS, Magnesium-Bulletin, 20(3), 1998, pp. 60-64
Male SHR-rats were offered 50 mmol/L nitrite in their drinking water d
uring 4, 8 and 12 months. Systemic arterial blood pressure was signifi
cantly decreased. Compared to untreated controls no significant effect
s were observed on Mg and Ca levels of heart muscle and kidneys. After
12 months serum Mg increased by about 12% in the control group compar
ed to the treatment group, and serum Ca increased by about 4%. If diet
ary Mg supply is sufficient no interactions between Mg and nitrite are
to be expected.
