Abstract
A fluorescence-based temperature sensor based on Er-doped fiber for us e in the cryogenic temperature (T) region (77 less than or equal to T less than or equal to 273 K) as well as having been demonstrated for t he high temperature region (273 less than or equal to T less than or e qual to 1200 K) is discussed and its performance reported. Good stabil ity and sensitivity is seen, with a range of such fibers, showing a pr ecision in the measurement of +/-5 K. The configuration is simple, emp loying commercial doped fiber and readily available laser diode source s and photodiode detectors, and the results obtained are compared with those using alternative approaches.
