Polymer 3 having a tetradentate Schiff's base derivative of beta-diket
one was prepared by polycondensation of a bis(beta-diketone) monomer (
1) with 1,2-diaminocyclohexane (2). A polymer metal chelate in which a
ll coordination sites of 3 were occupied with copper(II) ions was obta
ined. The polymer chelate was soluble in CHCl3, CH2Cl2, N,N-dimethylfo
rmamide, and tetrahydrofuran. Gel-permeation chromatography measuremen
ts showed that the complex formation with copper(II) ions induced chan
ges in the conformation of 3 in solution.
