By using the drop-shaft microgravity experimental system, the Marangon
i convection flow in the molten 50 mass pet NaNO3-50 mass pct KNO3 mix
ture under microgravity condition was investigated. From the measureme
nt of surface velocities, the Re number is found to be proportional to
the Ma number to the 2/3 power, which may be expressed by the equatio
n Re proportional to (Ma)(2/3) The Marangini convection flow was quant
itatively evaluated by using an order-of-magnitude evaluation, and a g
eneral correlation of the Marangoni convection flow was derived. The c
alculated correlation is in good agreement with experimental results.
