Synthesis and radical polyaddition-isomerization of novel bifunctional
vinylcyclopropane derivatives, 1,4-xylylene bis(2-isopropenyl-2-methy
lcyclopropanecarboxylate) (1a), ethylene s(2-isopropenyl-2-methylcyclo
propanecarboxylamide) (1b), and bis(2-isopropenyl-2-methylcyclopropane
methyl) terephthalate (Ic) with dithiols were carried out. Polymers wi
th molecular weights and polydispersities of 1100-11000 and 1.18-7.35,
respectively, were obtained. The radical polyadditions of 1a with dit
hiols afford polymers containing a homopolymer of 1a, while those of 1
b and 1c with dithiols afford polymers with a content of dithiol units
of exactly 50 mol-%.
