In the latter half of this decade, the demand for cobalt in India has
increased sharply-from 55 tonnes in 1995 to more than 500 tonnes in 19
98. As India does not have domestic cobalt feedstock sufficient to mee
t most of this demand, ii imports and processes considerable secondary
cobalt resources. To most effectively deal with these secondary mater
ials, Indian laboratories have developed a variety of customized appro
aches for recovering cobalt values.
