D. Woolley, FIRE-RETARDANT POLYMERS IN THE FUTURE - SAFETY BY TESTS OR ENGINEERING, Die Makromolekulare Chemie. Macromolecular symposia, 74, 1993, pp. 1-10
The selection and control of fire retardant polymers for most current
applications is made by a prescriptive approach supported by standard
tests. There is now much international interest and commitment to nev
fire safety strategies based on fire safety engineering. This paper ou
tlines some of the issues which need to be addressed over the next dec
ade, if the full benefits of fire retardant polymers are to be recogni
sed in total fire safety designs.
