Intracerebroventricular administration of Orphanin FQ (5.5, 55 or 550
pmol) caused a dose-related increase in prolactin secretion in both ma
le and female rats and stimulated GK secretion in males. The magnitude
of the prolactin secretory response was greater in females than in ma
les. These effects of OFQ on prolactin and growth hormone release are
the same as the stimulatory effects of the endogenous opioid peptides.
