Abstract
The current status of cardiac transplantation is reviewed. Historical aspects are noted. Preoperative management and the use of cardiac assi st devices are explored. Donor management and organ procurement are de scribed, as is implantation of the donor heart. Finally, outcomes are discusses as are possibilities for future management of end stage hear t failure.
