Ethylenebis(isonitrosoethylacetoacetateimino)M(II) compounds for M = N
i, Cu, Co, Mn, Zn and Cd are formed by the reaction of diethyl ethylen
ebis(beta-aminocrotonate) with metal acetates in the presence of NaNO2
in acid medium. The ligand precursor, diethyl ethylenebis(beta-aminoc
rotonate), rearranges to N,N'-ethylenebis(isonitrosoethylaceloacetatei
mine) H2L, which further loses two protons in the presence of transiti
on metal ions and forms metal complexes [ML]. The proposed structures
of the Ni(II) and Cu(II) compounds are square-planar, the Co(II) and M
n(II) compounds are octahedral and the Zn(II) and Cd(LI) compounds are
tetrahedral. The compounds were characterised by IR,H- 1 NMR, UV-Visi
ble spectroscopic studies, magnetic moments, conductance measurements
and elemental analyses.
