B. Jordanov et al., FT-IR LINEAR DICHROIC SOLUTE SPECTRA OF NEMATIC SOLUTIONS AS A TOOL FOR IR BAND ASSIGNMENT, Journal of molecular structure, 297, 1993, pp. 401-406
FT-IR polarization spectra of diphenylacethylene (tolane), pyrene and
maleic anhydride, dissolved and oriented in a nematic liquid crystal m
ixture, were recorded and processed by means of the Thulstrup-Eggers p
rocedure of stepwise reduction. The IR active vibrations could be uneq
uivocally assigned to their symmetry classes on the basis of their ban
d polarizations. Some peculiarities were observed for the polarization
s of a few spectral bands.
