Screening smokes were and still are used in the military field for pro
tecting own units against an enemy. Within the last decades a developm
ent of advanced optoelectronic reconnaissance means and very precise w
eapons have raised a new interest in their usage. Technical benefits o
f screening phosphorous smokes made from plastified composites based o
n the red phosphorus with an epoxide resin binder, were proved that ab
sorb the visible and infrared radiation. High values of screening capa
bility against the radiation of these smokes were achieved i.e. in fie
ld measurements with fast protection smoke grenades, predestine them a
s one of the effective screening precautions. Generated smokes of this
nature are not assumed to be toxicologically and environmentally defe
ctive.
