The Diabetes School plays a key role in the management of type 1 diabe
tes mellitus in France as a place where physicians and nonphysicians u
se original tightly-organized structures to help diabetic children and
their families improve their treatment and live normal lives. The thr
ee focuses are education, information, and research. Education efforts
target physicians in treatment institutions other than hospitals. Inf
ormation is provided to the patients, their family, their physician, a
nd their school. Research projects are carried out. Lastly, education
is provided to health care professionals.
